Celebrating our 28,000 Airport Workers

AWD

On June 25, YVR joins airports across Canada in recognizing Airport Workers Day. Airport Workers Day is a national initiative to celebrate the people whose expertise, teamwork, and dedication keep Canada connected. At YVR, 28,000 people work across Sea Island every day in hundreds of specialized roles that keep passengers and cargo moving safely and efficiently in service of our community and the economy that supports it.

As Canada’s second busiest airport and the Pacific gateway to Asia and beyond, YVR plays a critical role in connecting visitors from around the world to British Columbia and facilitating trade and cargo movements that are essential for our region and province.

Every departure and arrival at YVR relies on the people behind the scenes. From baggage handlers and aircraft marshals to technicians, security teams, air traffic controllers, facilities staff, customer care teams and countless others, everyone contributes to the YVR story.

In 2025, YVR handled approximately $35 billion worth of cargo and welcomed a record 26.9 million passengers, reflecting continued growth in travel and trade. Approximately 365,000 tonnes of cargo moved through YVR in 2025, including high value seafood and fresh agriculture products, pharmaceuticals, precious metals and critical minerals, technology, and industrial machinery. Our ability to move these goods to global markets supports businesses, communities ,and families across British Columbia and beyond. Additionally, the work happening at YVR supports 115,000 jobs across the province and enables $13.5 billion in B.C.’s GDP annually. Behind those numbers are thousands of airport workers who keep essential goods, people and supply chains moving safely and efficiently 24/7.

On Airport Workers Day, YVR proudly recognizes and thanks the thousands of people across Sea Island and throughout Canada’s aviation sector whose work keeps communities connected, supports our economy, and helps move what matters every single day.

As part of this national celebration, airport workers from across the country are recognized with a national award that acknowledges their dedication and contribution to our industry. For the past three years running, YVR colleagues have proudly been among those recognized.
