YVR strengthens anti‑trafficking efforts with #NotInMyCity ahead of national awareness day

On February 20, YVR hosted a webinar in partnership with #NotInMyCity to showcase the critical role airports play in identifying, preventing, and disrupting human trafficking. #NotInMyCity, is a leading Canadian organization dedicated to preventing and ending human trafficking and sexual exploitation through awareness, education, and coordinated action.

Held ahead of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Canada, February 22, the session brought together aviation partners, frontline staff, and community organizers. Speakers discussed the evolving nature of trafficking in airports, how coordinated airport networks can intervene, and the steps YVR is taking to prepare for increased passenger volumes during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This year marks YVR’s second anniversary as a member of the Human Trafficking Prevention Network of British Columbia. Membership in the network strengthens province‑wide coordination across law enforcement, community agencies, and transportation hubs -- a critical component in reducing trafficking activity.

Since forming our partnership with #NotInMyCity in November 2023, we have continued to expand staff training, develop targeted awareness campaigns, and collaborate with airport employers and security partners to identify and report potential trafficking indicators.

To date, over 85% of Vancouver Airport Authority  employees have completed training to recognize the signs of human trafficking in the airport environment, equipping both our front line and office staff with the skills needed to respond effectively. In 2025, Securiguard joined YVR as a #NotInMyCity partner, further strengthening our collective commitment to prevention.

As global attention turns to the FIFA World Cup, YVR continues to remain a leader in safeguarding travellers and preventing human trafficking. Building on its partnership with #NotInMyCity and extensive training programs that help employees recognize and report trafficking indicators, we continue to strengthen awareness campaigns and cooperative efforts with public safety partners. These measures reflect YVR’s commitment to human rights, operational safety, and the well-being of all passengers during major international events.

Human trafficking is a complex issue that requires cross-collaborative action.
