Unpacking YVR’s Strategic Baggage Alliance

If you’re a child of the 80s or 90s, you will likely remember that scene in Toy Story 2, where Buzz and the gang set out on a rescue mission through a maze of conveyer belts, sorting machines and lifts in an airport’s baggage system.

That baggage system isn’t so different from the one at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), with 23 kilometres of track. On any given day, upwards of 40,000 bags will move through our baggage ecosystem. For context: that’s enough luggage to fill four and a half Olympic Swimming Pools... every single day.

To continue delivering a seamless, end-to-end baggage solution that meets the highest standards of service, we are on a journey to evolve Baggage Operations at YVR. The formation of the Strategic Baggage Alliance – a partnership with our four key service providers, AviBC, ABCoast Aviation Solutions, Brock Solutions, and Vanderlande – is a testament to this commitment. These providers have created a coordinated approach to running Baggage service focusing on resilience and innovative processes. This means more support to deliver baggage for airline partners, better system reliability and innovative solutions to baggage operations at YVR.

The Strategic Baggage Alliance represents a significant step forward in our mission to achieve 100 per cent baggage delivery and create a seamless passenger experience at YVR.
