YVR's 2024 Highlights
At YVR, our mission is to serve our community and the economy that supports it. And in 2024, we continued to fulfill that mission through growth, innovation and meaningful connections. In no particular order, here are some of our top milestones from this past year:
New Food and Beverage Openings
YVR introduced a number of new food offerings in 2024, including two beloved Vancouver favourites — Lee’s Donuts and Triple O’s. These new additions bring convenient, local flavours to the airport.
Air Canada Launch to Singapore
Air Canada launched direct flights from Vancouver to Singapore, providing new opportunities to grow tourism, support increased trade and connect families and friends across the Pacific region.
ZipAir Starts Service at YVR
ZipAir, the low-cost Japanese carrier, began service from YVR, making it easier for travellers to explore Asia.
A&K Robotics Cruz Mobility Pods
Alongside A&K Robotics, YVR introduced Cruz mobility pods, enhancing accessibility for passengers. These cutting-edge, self-driving pods are now available to assist in navigating the airport with ease and comfort.
Energy Advisory Council
Formed this year, YVR’s Energy Advisory Council is focused on advancing sustainable energy practices at the airport. This new initiative aims to further reduce the airport's carbon footprint while leading in environmental innovation.
Province, YVR work together to fight pollution
A provincial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to collaborate on measures to reduce pollution at YVR. This agreement represents a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and cleaner air in the region.
Employee Giving
This year, YVR employees directed over $117,000 to support 251 causes across Canada and volunteered more than 2900 hours to local charitable organizations. This includes working with A Better Life Foundation, through Plenty of Plates, to provide nutritious meals and a sense of dignity to individuals and families in need.
Musqueam Markets
YVR partners with our friends at Musqueam every year to showcase their vibrant culture by hosting the airport’s Musqueam Market. At various times throughout the year, we provide opportunities for people to experience Indigenous art, food, and crafts while travelling.
Skytrax Win
YVR was named Best Airport in North America at the Skytrax World Airport Awards for the 14th time. Regaining our top spot as Best Airport in North America is a result of the dedication and hard work of our employees and everyone working here at YVR to serve travellers and our community.
Tamara Vrooman's GVBOT Address
Tamara Vrooman's recent address to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade highlighted YVR's role in supporting regional economic growth. Her speech emphasized the airport’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in the face of evolving travel needs.
