YVR welcomes Air Canada’s digital identification program

While teleportation remains a dream, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is welcoming the future of travel with Air Canada’s Digital Identification program. Starting on December 3, 2024, passengers on most domestic flights will have the option of using Digital Identification at the gate for quick and secure identity verification, streamlining the boarding process.

This first-of-its-kind initiative in Canada highlights a strong working relationship between YVR and Air Canada, showcasing our continuous commitment to innovation and a seamless travel experience. By welcoming advanced technologies, YVR continues to prioritize efficiency, convenience, and security for all passengers.

Enjoy a seamless boarding experience

With Air Canada’s Digital ID, boarding is easier than ever. Enrolled passengers can confirm their identity in seconds by stepping up to a camera screen—no phone, boarding pass, or ID required. This streamlined process helps you get to your seat quickly, allowing more time for baggage storage and settling in.

A flexible boarding experience

Participation in Air Canada’s Digital Identification program is entirely optional and consent-based, giving Air Canada passengers control over when and how their biometric and personal information is used. Travellers must provide additional consent for the data to be used on the day of travel, and the information provided for the Digital ID system is not used for any other purpose. For travellers who prefer the traditional boarding process, a boarding pass and government issues ID can still be presented as usual.

Our engineering teams redesigned gate layouts for the new e-gates, and our Information Technology specialists integrated the necessary systems to ensure a seamless process.
