YVR to welcome 7.8 million travellers during summer travel season

Between July 1 and September 30, YVR is expecting 7.8 million passengers to travel through the airport as more British Columbians travel through the busy summer travel season. This represents a 9.6% increase compared to passenger levels seen in 2023 during that same period. 

During this period, we are expecting an average of 85,196 passengers per day and a total of 62,387 flights.  

The busiest day of summer is projected to be August 15 with 90,886 passengers expected, followed by August 19 and September 2 with 90,856 and 90,812 passengers expected.  

The most popular destinations passengers are travelling to over the busy summer travel period are: 
 

  • Domestic: Toronto (YYZ), Calgary (YYC), Montreal (YUL), Edmonton (YEG) 
  • U.S.: Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Las Vegas (LAS), New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD) 
  • International: London (LHR), Hong Kong (HKG), Tokyo (NRT), Frankfurt (FRA), Taipei (TPE) As travellers prepare for their summer holidays, we at YVR are prioritizing safety, innovation, teamwork, and accountability to ensure a smooth journey through the airport. 


To enhance support for passengers during peak times, we have zones throughout the airport with dedicated support teams, additional staff, and also our Curbside Greeting Program. This program is designed to welcome arriving guests and provide accessibility support for travellers. 

In addition, we have multiple digital tools for traveller’s to further enhance their journey.  
 

  • YVR EXPRESS - Passengers departing from YVR within Canada and to the United States have the option to streamline their experience through security screening with YVR EXPRESS. For more booking information please click here.   
  • Passenger Journey Tool - The Passenger Journey tool outlines step-by-step guides to navigate the airport. You can access it by finding your departing flight information on YVR’s departures page and clicking “View Your Journey”.  
  • YVR TimeLine – This is a digital tool designed to support passengers in reaching their gate on time. To use YVR TimeLine, simply scan the QR code located throughout security screening lanes and enter your flight number. The system will determine if you are at risk of missing your flight and provide instructions to assist you.
