YVR Celebrates Volunteer Week with waves of impact across the community

YVR was proud to recognize another remarkable National Volunteer Week—one filled with connection, generosity, and true community spirit. This year’s theme, “Volunteers Make Waves,” came to life thanks to more than 70 dedicated YVR employees who collectively contributed over 142 hours of volunteer work. Together, we created ripples of positive change in support of local organizations that are making a difference every day.

Here’s how we made an impact through four corporate-led volunteer events:

Turning rice into reach at Quest Grocery Markets
We kicked off National Volunteer Week at the Quest Repack Project, where YVR volunteers turned eight 50-pound bags of rice—totaling 400 lbs—into 136 accessible portions for resale through Quest Non-Profit Grocery Markets. This initiative supports individuals facing economic barriers by providing affordable, healthy food in a dignified way.

Serving dignity at Plenty of Plates
On Wednesday, employees rolled up their sleeves once again to support A Better Life Foundation through the Plenty of Plates dinner service. Together, we prepared and served a nourishing three-course meal to community members. This initiative not only feeds those in need—it fosters connection and restores dignity, all while building stronger bonds among colleagues.

Making sandwiches, making a difference
Thursday marked the third annual Great Sandwich Make @ YVR in partnership with Joe & The Juice and Avolta’s Journey for Good Foundation. This year, we exceeded expectations, preparing 1,200 sandwiches that were delivered to the Filipino Food Bank and Filipino Seniors Club of BC. In addition, both YVR and Avolta each donated $10,000 to support Refood, a local food rescue organization. What began as a goal of 500 sandwiches has now become a cornerstone initiative—delivering over 10,000 sandwiches and counting.

Cleaning up the coastline at Iona Beach
We wrapped up the week on a windy Sunday with a Shoreline Clean-Up at Iona Beach. Alongside Sea Smart School Society, YVR employees, families, and friends joined forces to clear litter and recyclables from the shoreline—helping protect local ecosystems and maintain the natural beauty of our coastal environment.
