The 20th Annual YVR Fly Quiet Award Winners
The 20th annual YVR Fly Quiet Awards were announced at the Chief Pilot’s Meeting on May 7, 2025. Our Fly Quiet Awards recognize airlines for their diligence with YVR’s noise management program and are designed to raise awareness of the importance of noise management to YVR and our community.
Each year, winners are selected based on their overall noise performance as measured by YVR’s Aircraft Noise & Operations Monitoring System, as well as their compliance with YVR’s Noise Abatement Procedures. Airlines must also demonstrate a commitment to quieter operations, including:
- Use of quieter aircraft models
- Taking flight paths and runways designed to avoid flying over communities whenever possible
- Minimizing reverse thrust and night-time operations where possible
Noise management varies significantly by aircraft type, which is why the Fly Quiet Awards are presented in three distinct categories. This approach allows for a fair and meaningful comparison among aircraft with different acoustic profiles:
- Propeller aircraft: Typically quieter but still monitored closely for noise abatement compliance
- Narrow-body jets: Common on short-haul routes; performance depends on aircraft design and operational practices
- Wide-body jets: Larger aircraft with greater noise potential, evaluated with more stringent criteria due to their broader community impact
We are proud to recognize the following winners of the 20th Annual YVR Fly Quiet Awards:
- Jazz Aviation (Propeller Aircraft Category)
- Porter Airlines (Narrow-body Jet Category)
- All Nippon Airways (Wide-body Jet Category)
