Statement from YVR regarding major airports private investment
Musqueam Territory / Richmond, B.C. (September 15, 2026): The following statement can be attributed to Tamara Vrooman - President and CEO of Vancouver International Airport.
Today, the Government of Canada announced its intention to allow private investment in Canada’s four largest airports through long-term concession agreements.
YVR has been productively engaging with the Government of Canada for several months since the Prime Minister indicated his intention to explore airport investment opportunities. Going forward, YVR will continue to engage with the Government of Canada, as well as with Musqueam, given our unique relationship.
Since adopting our current operating model in 1992, YVR has generated significant value for B.C. and Canada. Today, 28,000 people come to work every day on Sea Island and YVR supports an additional 130,000 jobs nationally, contributing $16 billion to Canada’s GDP. This strong foundation, combined with YVR’s role as an economic catalyst and global gateway, has made our airport one of the world’s best.
As this work advances, we look forward to exploring how private investment can continue to drive passenger experience, support our people and community, and ensure YVR delivers long-term economic value for the region and Canada.
