YVR on track for record-breaking summer, what travellers need to know ahead of busy August Long Weekend

Summer is in full swing at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the airport is preparing for B.C. Day Long Weekend, expected to be its busiest long weekend of the season.

YVR is forecasting to see the highest number of travellers of the long weekend on Friday, July 31 with 91,200 passengers. From July 31 to August 3, 340,400 total travellers are expected with an average of 85,100 per day.

As the first half of the summer was dominated by FIFA World Cup 2026 activities in Vancouver, YVR continues to see a busy summer travel season. The airport is expecting an average of 85,300 travellers daily between June 12 and September 8 with a total of 7.6 million travellers over the period.

YVR asks travellers to check their flight status with their airline and at yvr.ca ahead of coming to the airport. Travellers are also encouraged to the airport to prebook their parking in advance.

Travellers will also notice YVR innovation investments for both passengers and their luggage at security screening and boarding gates:

Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray equipment at both Domestic checkpoints allows passengers travelling domestically to save time by leaving large electronics, such as laptops, and liquids in their bags for a faster security screening experience.
Passengers also have more opportunities to use biometric identity verification tools versus having to show boarding passes and physical identification through Air Canada’s Digital ID program and newly installed e-gates for those travelling to the U.S. via U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) Traveller Verification Service (TVS) facial comparison technology.
