Alpine Loft Opens at YVR, Showcasing Local Makers and Canadian Craft

Download

On February 12, YVR officially opened Alpine Loft, a new retail concept in the International Terminal that brings together local makers, Canadian brands, and travel-ready essentials in a space inspired by British Columbia’s mountain cabins.

Designed as a place for travellers to pause, explore, and refuel before their journey, Alpine Loft reflects YVR’s commitment to creating a strong sense of place and supporting local businesses.

Creating a sense of place through local products

More than just a shop, Alpine Loft offers passengers the chance to experience the creativity of British Columbian artisans before leaving the country. The store prioritizes products from small and medium-sized Canadian businesses, giving travellers the opportunity to discover brands rooted in Vancouver and across the province.

From locally designed apparel and wellness products to specialty teas, mountain‑inspired glassware, artful puzzles, and distinctive souvenirs, the selection reflects the character of our region. Featured brands include Vancity Apparel, Ole Originals, Ollie & Co., Paragon Tea, MTNPK, and Villager Puzzles — each offering something uniquely Canadian.

Design inspired by a mountain cabin

The store’s layout mirrors the flow of a mountain cabin, creating a natural walkthrough experience. Travellers move from a bedroominspired space featuring gifts and wellness products, into a livingroomstyle area showcasing souvenirs and electronics, and finish in a kitchenstyle section offering gourmet grabandgo snacks and beverages.

Fun finds and meaningful purchases

For something playful or unexpected, Dank Mart’s novelty and international candy selection has quickly become a traveller favourite. You’ll also find Six Hats Supply Co. products, where every purchase helps provide clean drinking water — making it easy to shop with purpose.

Thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind

Sustainability was a key consideration in the design of Alpine Loft. From wooden hangers and signage to cardboard and cornstarch‑based staff tools, the space minimizes waste wherever possible. The store also partnered with Vancouver‑based ChopValue to incorporate recycled materials, including paper‑only recycling bins. Product choices reflect the same values, with brands like Billy Would repurposing reclaimed skate decks into jewellery and accessories.

As Canada’s Pacific gateway, YVR connects people and communities to the world. Alpine Loft is part of that journey — giving travellers the opportunity to take a meaningful piece of Canada with them while celebrating the spirit, creativity, and innovation of British Columbia.
