YVR's Top 10 Tips for Winter Travel

Passengers in the International Check In Area

From parking to packing, we’ve got a comprehensive list to help you prepare and plan for travel through YVR this busy season.

1. Documents and details

Make sure you have your required travel docs – and that they aren’t expired – well in advance of your trip. This includes your passport/ID, airline reservations, bag specifications and any other records or paperwork you may need for the country you’re flying to.

2. Packing pointers

There are still restrictions on liquids, gels and aerosols for carry-on bags, and they need to be kept together in a clear, 1L, resealable bag. Those sneaky snow globes contain more liquid than permitted, so play it safe and pack those in your checked baggage. More information on what is permitted through security can be found on the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website at catsa.gc.ca.

3. Have a parking plan

Be sure to pre-book your parking at yvr.ca/parking ahead of your trip to ensure you get the best deal and space if you need it. Otherwise, consider taking Canada Line as it can get you from downtown Vancouver to the airport in 30 minutes or less.

4. Flight check

Things can be bare and wet here at YVR but winter weather in other parts of the country could impact your journey, so be sure to check the status of your flight at yvr.ca before you leave home. We also encourage you to use our new Journeys tool to help guide your trip from couch to cloud.

5. Book your security screening spot

Streamline your journey through security by using YVR EXPRESS to avoid waiting in line at your security checkpoint. Travellers within Canada and to the U.S. can schedule a spot in the line up to 72 hours ahead of their flight departure time.

6. Arrive early and enjoy

From 170 different shops, services and restaurants to our YVR Ambassador Dogs, there are so many reasons to make sure you arrive early and give yourself time to enjoy all the airport has to offer.

7. Grab a last-minute gift

Did you know you can reserve products from the duty-free shop while you’re on the way to the airport and the collect them before boarding your flight? Secure your gifts up to 48 hours in advance by visiting Vancouver Shop Duty Free.

8. Pick up your party

Picking up friends or family? YVR’s Cell Phone Waiting Area is a great place to wait for your loved ones to arrive. Avoid circling the terminal and enjoy this complimentary parking lot with free Wi-Fi.

9. Have more questions?

Keep an eye out for our YVR Guest Experience team or Green Coat volunteers. Team members are stationed all the way from the curb, through the terminal and at Information Counters and are ready to answer any questions you might have. Wave hello to our new Curbside Ambassadors when you arrive!
