YVR signs on to Clean Skies for Tomorrow pledge

At YVR we know travel isn’t the enemy in fighting climate change, it’s carbon. We also know the effort to decarbonize aviation can’t be done without Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in aircraft. With that in mind, we have joined the World Economic Forum’s Clean Skies for Tomorrow Coalition.

The coalition is made up of more than 80 global industry leaders with YVR among the first Canadian organizations to sign on. As a group, we’ve committed to advance the production of SAF technologies to reach 10 per cent of jet aviation fuel supply worldwide by 2030.

Our commitment was announced at COP26 in Glasgow.

SAF is a key element to reducing carbon emissions from aviation as its produced from sustainable feedstocks and resembles similar chemistry to traditional jet fuel.

Further to its commitment through Clean Skies for Tomorrow, YVR is also leading the way for SAF production in British Columbia through BioPortYVR.

Earlier this year, YVR became the first airport in Canada to commit to having net zero operations by 2030 and unveiled its Roadmap to Net Zero shortly thereafter.
