1. We remain committed to reaching net zero by 2030 and helping decarbonize aviation industry by 2050.
In alignment with our strategic lens on climate, YVR remains committed to achieving net zero operational emissions by 2030. We’ve been carbon neutral since 2020 and continue to reduce emissions through building upgrades, clean energy investments, and electric vehicle adoption. Our work to decarbonize the industry over the coming years will touch on energy planning, land development, aviation emissions and inter-modal transportation planning – and will inform the prioritization of capital investment.

2. We’re setting an ambitious target for zero-waste by 2040 for our main terminal
Zero-waste is defined as 90% diversion from landfill. While this might feel like a new and challenging goal, we know that well over 80% of the materials leaving the terminal today are divertible. Through our work on decarbonization and energy, we understand how important it is to build from a strong foundation to achieve success. Which is why over the next three years, we will develop a detailed action plan to achieve zero waste by 2040, or sooner, that will integrate into our 2025-2027 Strategy.

3. We’re protecting heritage and deepening relationships.
Sea Island is the traditional, unceded territory of the Musqueam people. Our plan reflects our commitment to reconciliation through strengthened archaeological protection, cultural competency training, and ongoing collaboration. We’re also creating job and mentorship opportunities in heritage conservation for Musqueam members.

4. We’re preparing for climate change—today.
Rising sea levels, extreme weather, and heatwaves are no longer future risks—they’re present-day realities. Our adaptation efforts include upgraded dikes, climate-resilient infrastructure, and low-visibility airfield enhancements. We’re also conducting a full bio-inventory of Sea Island to identify species and habitats that are at risk from climate change.

5. We can do this - together.
Our Environmental Sustainability Plan outlines our priorities for the environment, which are aligned with our 2025 – 2027 Strategy. As we work to deliver on our purpose of serving the community and economy that supports it, we are looking ahead with a heightened sense of responsibility to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment and take a leadership role in shaping a greener and more resilient future.
