Every new international flight to YVR creates value for British Columbia. Non-stop service to Dubai is estimated to generate $30.4 million for the local economy and as many as 63 full-time operations jobs in the province.

In addition to increased passenger flow and economic opportunities between the two cities, travellers will enjoy greater access to onward global connections available from DXB through Air Canada’s partnership with Emirates. Emirates has its hub in DBX which currently ranks as the busiest airport in the world, when measured by volume of international passenger traffic.

The service will operate Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, departing YVR at 9:15 p.m. and arriving to DXB at 12:05 a.m. two days later with a flight time of approximately 15 hours. Passengers on flights to and from Dubai will fly on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 298 seats.

During this last long weekend of summer, YVR continues to remind travellers to plan ahead, arrive early, and use travel tech available.

This includes YVR TimeLine, a new digital tool designed to support passengers in their journey to get to their gate on time. With YVR TimeLine, passengers can determine whether they are at risk of missing their flight. To access YVR TimeLine, passengers scan a QR code and then insert their flight number. The system will identify whether they are at risk of missing their flight and instruct them to see one of YVR’s Guest Experience representatives, who will assist them with getting to their gate. Signs displaying the QR code and instructions for use are located throughout security screening lanes at YVR.

YVR continues to encourage travellers to arrive at the airport early—two hours ahead of domestic flights and three hours ahead of U.S. and international flights.

TimeLine is another measure that YVR has implemented to help travellers navigate the airport more easily. Other digital tools available at YVR include the Passenger Journey tool, which outlines step-by-step guides to navigate the airport. The guides are available alongside flight information on the departures or arrivals pages of YVR.ca. YVR EXPRESS, Mobile Passport Control, and ArriveCAN are also available to help passengers save time throughout the travel process.

This weekend, YVR will connect travellers to 103 destinations across Canada and the world. Notably, the top destinations for departing YVR passengers over are:

At the time of finding, YVR suspended further work and notified Musqueam Indian Band. The artifacts have been sent to a certified archaeology and heritage lab for technical assessments.

This archaeological discovery demonstrates the longstanding and continued tie between Musqueam people and their ancestral territories. For this reason, finding these artifacts is not unexpected and something we plan for together with Musqueam. As part of its Sustainability and Friendship Agreement, Musqueam and YVR identify and protect archeological resources. This includes using historic and recent maps of Sea Island to safeguard key areas of archaeological interest and outline protocols for chance finds and how they will be handled.

Summer was selected through an open call for Musqueam artists to create a design that would weave her Musqueam culture onto every edge of her latest canvas, which happens to be YVR’s newest fire and rescue truck.

Using the familiar colours of an emergency vehicle, Summer’s artwork embraces traditional Musqueam design and features six magnificent thunderbirds decorating the sides and rear panels of the truck.

“In my culture, everything has a purpose, a meaning behind its stories. The thunderbird is known for its protection, it is a giver of life, and it is known for bringing water,” said Summer Cannell. “I wanted to tie both my Musqueam culture and YVR. I think this truck helps to connect the two.”

The new truck, an Oshkosh Stryker 4500 with capacity for 17,000 litres of water known as Red 5, is now in operation as the sixth fire truck in YVR’s Fire & Rescue fleet. The truck is an integral piece of firefighting equipment and will ensure the team is equipped to continue performing their essential role of keeping the airport and community safe.

The truck was first introduced into operation in June and was on display in Musqueam community on June 21 during National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations.

“Congratulations to Summer Cannell on this exciting new artwork for YVR, where she is proudly showcasing the generations of familial cultural knowledge that has been passed down to her,” said yəχʷyaχʷələq, Musqueam Chief Wayne Sparrow. “Summer is part of the next generation of Musqueam artists bringing our traditional design elements to new mediums throughout our territory, and we look forward to working with YVR to showcase more of our young artists at the airport.”

Musqueam and YVR enjoy a strong and enduring partnership, guided by a shared vision of collaboration, respect, and sustainability. Rooted in the principles of social, economic, environmental, and governance sustainability, the 30-year Musqueam YVR Sustainability & Friendship Agreement was the first of its kind when it was signed in 2017 and has set a benchmark for intercultural partnerships in the region.

Background:

Since 2017, YVR and Musqueam have together created and continue to walk a path of reconciliation. Outcomes of the work performed under the agreement include employing more than 100 members of Musqueam at the airport and across Sea Island, 39 scholarships awarded to Musqueam students, and three additional agreements signed between Musqueam and businesses operating at the airport.

More than the numbers, YVR has incorporated Musqueam culture and protocol throughout its business and operation and continues to increase representation across the airport community. The work of both organizations has resulted in improvements to the ecosystem and the return of salmon spawning in the Fraser River estuary as well as showcasing local Musqueam artisans and providing space for them to sell their goods in the airport.

YVR has also integrated some of the 94 Calls to Action put forward by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, with more work to follow.

YVR and Musqueam are located in the same community on land that is traditional Musqueam territory. Musqueam now play an integral role in many areas of YVR’s business and operations, from noise management and environmental advisory to development planning and cultural engagement.

About the artist:

Summer Cannell is an emerging Coast Salish artist from the Musqueam First Nation in British Columbia. Currently, Summer is a West Point Grey Academy high school student, where she has designed a new school logo for the athletics department and a mural within the school representing the community. She has been an avid artist since she was old enough to hold a pencil.

Summer has been exposed to Coast Salish Art and culture from birth; coming from a renowned artistic family, she is the granddaughter of Susan Point. Together Point and Cannell designed a new lobby floor artwork for the leləm̓ Community Centre.

From July through September, YVR expects to welcome nearly seven million passengers. This is a notable increase from the same period in 2022, when YVR saw just over six million passengers. YVR has designed innovative technologies to help travellers move through the airport with ease. This includes an online journey mapping platform that outlines step-by-step guides to navigate the airport. It also includes providing timely reports on YVR’s operational performance, with the latest data on baggage delivery, on-time performance, and security screening wait times posted to its website. YVR EXPRESS, Mobile Passport Control, and ArriveCAN continue to be available for travellers to further streamline their trip and save time throughout the travel process.

To supplement these digital solutions, YVR has increased staff across the operation and in terminal to meet peak demand and ensure travellers of all abilities are supported throughout their journey. YVR has also resumed its Less Airport Stress Initiative (LASI), a program that brings ambassador dogs from St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog Program into the terminal to provide a support service for anyone to manage anxiety associated with travel, work, and general stress.

The YVR-IAD route will be operated on an Air Canada Boeing 737 MAX 8, with seat capacity for 169 passengers, and will contribute an additional $1.2 million in taxes and $5.7 million in GDP.

“While the review confirms our safety promise was kept, it shows that our customer service commitment was not,” said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority. “Passengers clearly told us that, while they recognize aviation is a complex ecosystem of different partners and players, they want YVR to take a leading role in providing more information, better access to front-line staff, and other improvements in times of extreme travel disruption -- this action plan provides our roadmap for doing just that.”

The review highlights both the changing realities of passenger and aircraft traffic post-COVID as well as the impacts of climate change and more extreme weather events. This puts additional strain on airside services including aprons, gates, and ground handling. While these services perform well during regular operations, the systems and processes our airport community has historically relied on must be made more resilient and adaptable for more frequent and extreme weather disruptions.

The five key focus areas, with a total of 25 supporting actions, outlined in the review include:

1. Enhance Winter and Irregular Operations – installation of new real-time weather monitoring equipment, new gate protocols to ensure arriving aircraft can deplane passengers within 30 minutes of taxiing off the runway, additional winter weather equipment and de-icing fluid storage capacity to meet the new realities of sustained, extreme weather events.
2. Enhance Cross-Team Collaboration – Additional information sharing across different airport partners as well as establishing a permanent team from across the Airport Authority and partners to enhance decision-making and improve passenger focus.
3. Accelerate Investments in Technology and Data – Better prioritization of aircraft on the airfield as well as an improved ability to track delayed baggage through real-time technology and data including a new digital apron monitoring tool.
4. Enhance In-Terminal Passenger Supports - More staff will be trained to directly support travellers using better, up-to-date information throughout the terminal 24-7. Improved digital communications directly to passengers in the terminal about resources available, including accessibility services.
5. Enhance Communications to Passengers and Public – YVR will commit to sharing more information more often. We will also make better use of our website and leverage stakeholders, partners, and other organizations to get people the updates they need in a more reliable and consistent way. Regular public reporting on YVR’s on-time performance, baggage performance, security screening times.

A number of provisions in YVR’s new collective agreement make it the first of its kind in Canada. This includes aligning the traditional seniority-based job protection with reconciliation and ensures that Musqueam Indian Band employees will be retained as part of the Musqueam – YVR Sustainability & Friendship Agreement. This same provision also minimizes the adverse impact of members of other designated groups in the workplace such women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities.

The agreement also recognizes front line employees who worked through the pandemic with significant economic support, which includes increases to extended health benefits, such as a health spending account and mental health provisions, improvements to leave provisions, such as vacation time, and fair general economic increases that will apply consideration to the Consumer Price Index average.

These increases are aligned with the Airport Authority’s certification as a Living Wage Employer—a designation that ensures all its employees are paid at or higher than the specified living wage in British Columbia.

“This negotiated agreement is the result of both parties bargaining in a modern and collaborative way,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority. “Ratifying this agreement is a positive step for our employees and an example of the benefits of progressive, good faith negotiations. We thank the Public Service Alliance of Canada and our union executive for working with us throughout the process.”

“I’m very proud of our bargaining team and the achievement of reaching a tentative agreement with the employer without the need for a labour dispute,” said Devin Glass, President at PSAC, Local 20221. “It is a testament to the trusted and collaborative relationship between the Local and the employer to build upon a great foundation and continue to make improvements to the agreement for our members.”

A foundational element of the negotiation process was a common goal to create an agreement with simplified language that addressed the most meaningful needs of employees and supports the strategic direction of YVR. This collaborative process concluded in an effective way that eliminated the risk of any labour disruption.

The Airport Authority operates Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in service of the community and the economy that supports it. PSAC Local 20221 represents 500 employees at the Airport Authority.

Through the integration of sensors, historical and real-time data into the platform, the Digital Twin strategically presents key information in 2D and 3D, enabling data-driven decision-making and collaboration which has never been available before.

This big step wouldn’t be possible without the support of the airport’s partner Unity – the world’s leading platform for creating and growing interactive, real-time 3D (RT3D) content and its professional service group, Accelerate Solutions.

Since 2021, the YVR Digital Twin platform has addressed various operational challenges amid changing aviation and travel realities. During the 2022 peak summer travel season, YVR’s Guest Experience Team used the Digital Twin to relieve passenger congestion at security checkpoints. To support YVR’s decarbonization goals and help the aviation industry reach net zero emissions by 2030, YVR is working in collaboration with carrier partners to build a greenhouse gas calculation model that monitors, maps out and analyzes more efficient aircraft movements with the aim to reduce airside emissions.

As part of its reconciliation efforts, YVR will provide access to training opportunities to Musqueam students through a Unity certification program designed to advance future career placements within the digital twin and gaming industries. YVR and Musqueam are located in the same community on land that is Musqueam traditional territory. YVR is also exploring the possibilities in digitizing the airport’s extensive Indigenous art collection, so as to share Indigenous culture, art and language with the world.

YVR has a long history of designing industry-leading travel technology to transform the passenger experience, deliver operational efficiencies and bring these solutions to airports globally, most recently with its BORDERXPRESS kiosks. In the coming months, YVR will be working closely with airports and sector partners to advance digital twin technology and make it available to partners in Canada and around the world.

Between March 10 – 24, YVR is expecting 880,573 passengers to travel through the airport. This represents 88 per cent of passenger levels seen in 2019, when 1,000,293 passengers travelled during that same period.

During this period, YVR is expecting an average of 58,705 passengers per day with March 24 and 15 projected as the busiest dates.

The most popular destinations passengers are travelling to over the Spring Break period are:

YVR continues to work closely with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and its many partners to deliver a safe and seamless experience for passengers. The airport will also continue to use innovative technology such as its Digital Twin to monitor passenger volumes and airfield capacity and make real-time data-driven decisions that help streamline operations and passenger flows.

The airport continues to recommend that passengers arrive early—up to two hours ahead of scheduled domestic flights and three hours ahead for U.S. and international flights.

Passengers are also encouraged to leverage travel technologies to further enhance their journey through YVR.

For departing travellers:

• US Customs Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app: US Customs and Border Protection released the MPC app that allows travellers to submit information digitally prior to moving through the border process. By using the app, travellers may experience shorter wait times, less congestion, and efficient processing.
  
• YVR EXPRESS: Passengers travelling domestically or to the U.S. have the option to schedule a specific time for security screening up to 72 hours in advance of their flight by using YVR EXPRESS. After booking on yvr.ca/express, passengers can look for the signage at either ABC Checkpoint (Domestic Departures) or Security Checkpoint E (US Departures).
• jetSet valet parking: Having a parking plan is an important step to consider before driving to YVR. Passengers travelling to the airport by car are now able to reserve their spot for jetSet’s 24/7 valet parking facility at yvr.ca/parking. Customers can enjoy the complementary 24/7 round-trip shuttle service to the Main Terminal.

For arriving travellers:

• ArriveCAN app: By using the ArriveCAN app to submit customs and immigration declarations in advance of arrival, travellers will gain access to the Advance CBSA Declaration express lanes at the airport when they arrive in Canada and save time through the border clearance process.

For those picking up a traveller arriving from within Canada, passenger pickup has been temporarily relocated to Level 1 to make way for roadway and sidewalk improvements happening on Level 2.

This federal funding, combined with funding through the Government of British Columbia’s CleanBC Go Electric program will support the installation of up to 74 additional Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging outlets across Sea Island over the next three years. EV charging infrastructure is identified as a key priority in the airport’s Roadmap to Net Zero 2030. It is also an important part of its purpose in being a Gateway to the New Economy.

“We know that our passengers’ needs and expectations are changing as EV adaptation increases across our region. We are always working hard to anticipate and exceed these expectations and provide world-class amenities at our airport,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority.

This airport initiative is among 26 projects receiving $19 million under ZEVIP, which assists organizations as they adapt to the Government of Canada’s mandatory target for all new light-duty cars and passenger trucks to be zero-emission by 2035.

“We are grateful to have found partners at all levels of government as we take bold action to become the world’s greenest airport. Not only will this critical funding support us as we work to the complete electrification of our airport operations, but it will help us in our role supporting the mutual needs of our business partners related to climate action,” Vrooman continued.

These new EV Charging stations are planned to be installed by 2025, and will provide electricity to the YVR fleet, commercial and business partners’ vehicles, as well as passengers and the public. Currently, YVR provides 12 free electric vehicle charging stalls (Level Two) at its parking facilities, as well as one DC fast-charging stall.

This exciting announcement comes on the heels of the Province of BC’s Integrated Marketplace Initiative (IMI) pilot program in November 2022, a partnership between YVR and the Province of British Columbia to invest up to 11.5 million to develop made-in-BC clean-tech solutions for use at the airport.

The foundational principal of the MOU is to create real-world opportunities for BCIT students to learn, collaborate and apply their industry-driven ideas within the innovation and technology environment at YVR, through the airport’s Digital Twin and other initiatives under its Innovation Hub.

“We are proud to deepen our relationship with BCIT and welcome more innovators, thinkers and contributors to YVR as we support future generations of B.C.’s tech talent and drive innovation in the region,” said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “YVR’s existing partnership with BCIT and its Centre for Internet of Things has already demonstrated how innovative thinking can be taken beyond the classroom and transformed into reality. With this MOU, the possibilities are now endless.”

BCIT and YVR first came together in 2021 under an MOU that focussed on the Centre for Internet of Things (IoT). Through this collaboration, YVR and BCIT identified areas for applied research and ultimately established a living lab for students to respond to an industry challenge at YVR. As a result, BCIT students created a digital solution to monitor the water quality at outfall stations on Sea Island in real-time, automating a manual and time-consuming process. Other collaborations, such as those focused on data analytics, are industry-driven examples of digital transformation that further demonstrate how, together, BCIT and YVR are providing solutions to real-world problems.

The new MOU will allow the organizations to take on broader innovation projects that aren’t limited to IoT, such as integrating YVR’s Digital Twin with BCIT’s Smart Campus Development to explore potential use cases for process efficiencies, smart design and wayfinding.

“The partnership between BCIT and YVR is a leading-edge example of multidisciplinary innovation and another example of how we are contributing to the economic prosperity of B.C.,” said Paul McCullough, Interim President, BCIT. “This pan-institute collaboration will create a living lab for our BCIT students and faculty as they work alongside industry leaders to solve real-world problems – all critical to building an agile workforce with sustained and meaningful impact.”

The Innovation Hub @YVR is a platform that develops, tests and trials new processes and sustainable technologies in collaboration with the community, such as the deployment and continued development of YVR’s Digital Twin and the recent partnership with the Province as part of the Integrated Marketplace Initiative to support made-in-B.C. tech companies.

“We know passengers want an efficient experience when travelling, with all the various organizations involved in aviation working effectively together. That is the focus of our comprehensive technical and operational after-action review. We also need to ensure the voice of the traveller is heard. Through this public engagement process we will hear directly from passengers on how they want to be helped and supported, as well as informed, during times of operational disruption,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority.

YVR would like to hear from passengers who travelled to or from the airport during the months of December 2022 and January 2023 as well as members of the public who were impacted by the travel disruption during the holiday season. The public engagement will use a mix of consultation methods, including an online feedback form, virtual focus groups and panels, and written submissions to help ensure a diversity of experiences are included, such as travellers with mobility considerations or varying language or communication needs.

YVR is hosting its public engagement in two phases. The first phase, beginning today through January 30, 2023, will invite participants to share input on key areas of interest and methods of engagement, and to register for participation in Phase 2. The second phase, spanning January 31, 2023, through February 21, 2023, will invite participants to provide input on communication, service, and support requirements.

To ensure the process is as open as possible, participation in Phase 1 is not a prerequisite for involvement in Phase 2—if someone becomes aware of the process after January 31, they will be able to participate in the Phase 2 engagement.

Feedback received during this engagement will be shared with the public in the coming months along with recommendations from the after-action review. This exercise will allow YVR to continue to work across the aviation ecosystem to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

As of 12:01 a.m. ET on January 5, travellers flying to Canada from these locations must provide a negative COVID-19 test result to their airline before being allowed to board their aircraft and fly to Canada. Travellers are asked to ensure they contact their air carrier for the latest testing requirements.

The Government also announced expanded airport wastewater testing at Vancouver International Airport and Toronto Pearson. We look forward to working with the Public Health Agency of Canada, airlines and ground handling staff at YVR to implement the new wastewater testing pilot. We are awaiting further information from the Government concerning implementation details and timelines.

The wastewater testing pilot program announced today builds on ongoing work at YVR. Wastewater surveillance is an effective way to monitor for the presence of many pathogens and support public health decision making. Wastewater from YVR is monitored through existing community wastewater sampling at the Metro Vancouver Iona Wastewater Treatment Plant, located immediately north of our airport property. Metro Vancouver posts weekly sampling results on its website.

Additionally, YVR has been working with the BC Centre for Disease Control and Public Health Agency of Canada since early November 2022 to expand their joint surveillance program and directly sample YVR’s wastewater. As we move into the new year, our focus will turn to operationalizing the expanded airport wastewater surveillance.

“Our primary focus is to safely get passengers on their journey. When extreme weather disrupts those plans for extended periods of time, we understand that passengers face immense challenges – especially if they don’t call Vancouver home,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority. “Importantly, hotel rooms secured for passengers do not take away from capacity for crew of our airline partners.”

Vrooman continued, “As much as we love our airport, it is not the ideal location to spend the night. We’d like to thank our local hotel operators and restaurants for working with us to book these rooms and meals so quickly.”

The hotel rooms and meal vouchers will be available from Friday December 23 through December 27.

In addition, YVR has set up a designated area in the terminal so that passengers who remain at the airport can be as comfortable as possible. This area is located in Level 3 departures (past US check-in) and it will have cots, blankets, hygiene kits, and other supplies available.

YVR staff and volunteers continue to assist passengers by distributing food, water, blankets, and handwarmers as well as other comfort items such as stuffed animals, toys and colouring books. Staff in the terminal have also played an important role providing passengers with information and whatever other assistance is required. So far, over 10,000 snacks have been handed out, along with over 15,000 water bottles and 1,500 blankets.

Passengers expecting to travel today should plan ahead and anticipate potential flight impacts as a result of the evolving storm.

Vrooman concluded, “Significant winter storms across Canada and the U.S. continue to impact travel through the holiday season. We recognize the challenges this creates for individuals and families. We are grateful to our passengers for their continued patience, and to our employees and entire airport community who are working tirelessly to help get them on their way.”

Today Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is providing a comprehensive update on current operations. At this time, flights are steadily arriving and departing from YVR. The airport continues to keep runways, taxiways, and aprons open and clear of snow and ice, and all de-icing facilities are in operation.

“We recognize that travel has been challenging for passengers and the effects that extreme winter weather is having on individuals and families this holiday season,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority. “We want to assure our community that we have taken ever measure possible to keep people, planes and bags moving safely.”

Steps YVR has taken to maintain operations include the following:

• YVR has temporarily limited some arriving international flights for through Friday, December 23 at 5:00 a.m., which will help keep aircraft moving on the airfield.

• YVR is proactively managing rate of arrivals and departures with airline partners as schedules are reduced in advance of Thursday/Friday winter storm, and is actively working with airline partners to provide a clear picture of flight schedules and provide this information to passengers across its channels.

• YVR is collaborating with airline partners to provide access to gates in sequential order of arrival to ensure passengers are not held on aircraft.

• The airport is also assisting airline partners by deploying additional staff to help organize bags and work with passengers to locate their luggage. Airport staff continue to support passengers in terminal, providing blankets, refreshments, and real-time assistance.

With another front of winter weather expected across Canada, travellers can expect additional delays and cancellations in the coming days. Travellers are encouraged to check latest flight information with their airline.

Current Operations, By the Numbers

• 115 flights out of 666 flights to and from YVR were cancelled.

• An average of 28 aircraft are being de-iced per hour.

• 5,000 water bottles, 5,000 snacks, including apples and oranges, and thousands of blankets and handwarmers have been distributed to passengers in terminal since December 20.

Our focus is to depart aircraft from the airport and get crews and passengers safely on their way. Therefore, we will be temporarily limiting arriving international flights for approximately 48 hours, effective Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 a.m. through Friday, December 23 at 5:00 a.m.

We anticipate that approximately 30 arriving international flights with 17 airlines will be affected, including All Nippon Airways, Air China, Air France, Air India, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Eurowings, Eva Air, Hainan, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Philippine Airlines, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines.

We fully recognize the impact this will have on individuals and families over the holiday season. However, the congestion caused by Tuesday’s storm events make this action necessary.

For the holiday travel period between December 19 – January 1, today marks the busiest day of the year so far, with an expected 70,761 passengers. Other busy days for this period include December 22 with 67,566 passengers and December 29 with 67,286 passengers expected to travel through the airport. For comparison, in 2019 YVR’s busiest day was December 20 with 75,877 passengers.

During the next two weeks, through January 1, YVR is expecting an average of approximately 64,511 passengers per day for a total of 903,150, connecting these travellers to 94 destinations across Canada and the world. During the same period in 2019, YVR saw an average of 72,178 passengers per day for a total of 1,010,496 over the two-week span. In 2021, YVR saw an average of 38,698 per day for a total of 541,775 for this same period.

Salmon n’ Bannock On The Fly will feature the fresh, authentic Indigenous cuisine that made the bistro an internationally celebrated award-winner. On the menu will be favourites like the Feel the Beet Salad and Urban Salmon Burger, plus exclusive new offerings that reflect the central role food plays in Indigenous cultures.

Salmon n’ Bannock On The Fly is located post-security in International Departures. And, like the bistro’s first location on Vancouver’s busy Broadway Street, it will feature works from her Indigenous artist friends.

For five years now, YVR, which sits on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, has held a Sustainability and Friendship Agreement with Musqueam, the first agreement of its kind in Canada.

“We are incredibly delighted that Inez has chosen to open a Salmon n’ Bannock location at YVR. Travellers are now able to enjoy more fresh, locally made Indigenous food in the terminal or take it as grab-and-go for their aircraft journey,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “At YVR, we continue to connect travellers with the taste of British Columbia’s diverse and exciting flavours, showcasing the best of our region through food, hospitality and service. Once open, Salmon n’ Bannock On The Fly will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner for international travellers to experience food created by the original stewards of the land.

As British Columbians and visitors prepare for travel over the holiday season, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is reminding travellers to be prepared for their journey through the airport.

A total of approximately 1.8 million passengers are expected to fly through YVR in December 2022; during this same period in 2019, YVR welcomed 2.1 million passengers. Over the holiday season, between December 19 and January 2, December 22 is expected to be the busiest day with an estimated 63,664 passengers. For comparison, in 2019, YVR’s busiest day was December 20 with 75,877 passengers.

To help streamline the airport experience, YVR has expanded YVR EXPRESS. Starting today, travellers within Canada can reserve their spot in the security screening line at YVR, creating a more balanced flow of passengers through security screening, helping reduce wait times for security checkpoints, and providing a more predictable experience for both passengers and staff. YVR EXPRESS was first introduced for travel to the U.S. in October.

As travellers prepare for their trip, YVR offers the following travel tips and information on new processes and programs at the airport as well festive activities throughout the terminal:

1. Know before you go: Check the current status of your flight through your airline’s website or yvr.ca before coming to the airport. Consider online check-in: Most airlines offer online check-in, meaning you can have your boarding pass emailed to your mobile device and/or printed before coming to the airport.
2. Book your spot for security screening in advance: Consider using YVR EXPRESS to reserve your spot in security screening. YVR EXPRESS is available for those flying within Canada or to the U.S. and allows you to pre-book your spot up to 72 hours before your flight.
3. Pack smart: Be sure to follow all Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) baggage requirements. Remember: liquids, gels and aerosols need to be in containers that are less than 100 milliliters and be packaged into one transparent, closed, and resealable plastic bag that is under one litre. Avoid wrapping holiday gifts - contents may need to be inspected during the screening progress for both carry-on and checked baggage!
4. Arrive early to enjoy your YVR experience: We strongly encourage travellers to arrive at least 2 hours in advance of domestic flights, and 3 hours in advance of U.S. and international flights. Be sure to build in extra time on your way to the airport in case you run into inclement weather, traffic, or any other issues which could delay you.
5. Plan your route to the airport: Consider taking the Canada Line to YVR - it can get you from downtown to the terminal door in 30 minutes or less! Driving to YVR? Be sure to pre-book your parking.
6. Use your smartphone to speed up your time in line: Travellers heading to the U.S. can submit passport and customs declaration information through the secure Mobile Passport Control app in advance of their trip. Those returning from the U.S. or an international destination can use ArriveCAN to submit customs information and follow signs for Advance CBSA Declaration (ACD) Express Lanes to move through the customs process more quickly.
7. Try our tasty food options: There’s something for everyone to savour when you journey through YVR! A full list of dining options, including new local brands such as Dirty Apron, can be found on yvr.ca. You can also order your meals in advance with our YVR Order Now app.
8. Find those last-minute holiday gifts: Forgot someone on your holiday giving list? YVR’s retail shops offer an extensive array of gift options! 9. Picking up someone from the airport? Be sure to use our Cellphone Waiting Area to avoid circling the terminals while you wait for your party to arrive. The Cellphone Waiting Area is a complimentary 30-minute parking lot, with free WiFi!
10. Got questions? Keep an eye out for our YVR Guest Experience team members or Green Coat volunteers. They are stationed at Information Counters and throughout the terminal and are ready to answer any questions you may have.

For example, the cost of turkeys has increased by 251 per cent since 2020, when we were last able to distribute them.”

The 1264 hampers that were prepared at YVR this year will help ensure approximately over 7,500 British Columbians are able to sit down for a complete meal this holiday season. As a part of the program, YVR also facilitates the distribution of these hampers.

Airports Going Green is a forum led by the Chicago Department of Aviation and co-hosted by the American Association of Airport Executives. It brings together industry leaders and innovators, providing national and international airport and airline perspectives on sustainability.

YVR’s Roadmap to Net Zero was introduced in 2021 and balances innovative approaches with practical actions that will guide YVR to become net zero by 2030 and one of the world’s greenest airports.

In addition to reducing emissions from its direct operations, YVR is also focused on supporting the decarbonization of aviation overall. This includes providing ground power units for airlines to plug into electric power at the gate and shut off engines, and using technology through YVR’s digital twin to monitor aircraft movements and map more efficient routing on its airfield to reduce carbon emissions.

The airport also recently partnered with the Port of Portland and Port of Seattle to share innovations and best practices to decarbonize aviation.

YVR’s leadership in carbon reduction was also recognized by Airports Council International through an Honourable Mention at the 2022 Environmental Achievement Awards and has earned YVR a Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation, the highest level available, making YVR the first airport in Canada and one of only three in North America to achieve this status.

Vrooman announced projections of increased passengers and provided significant updates on key growth priorities centered around land use, cargo, climate, and innovation, including exciting opportunities YVR is exploring beyond core airport operations.

“We are on track to welcome more than 17 million passengers this year, following an increase of 168 per cent from January to August and the single biggest increase of travellers in our 90-year history,” said Vrooman. “As we reflect on lessons learned from the pandemic and look to the future, the importance of connection has clearly illustrated the responsibility we have to lead and grow with purpose to help build a community that is resilient, thriving and sustainable.”

In keeping with YVR’s forward-looking strategy, Vrooman spoke about a number of unique ways the airport is thinking about growth and connection.

The airport redesigned its land use plan, unlocking significant opportunities for new development through 2072, and continues to focus on its cargo business by exploring and investing in digital infrastructure to improve goods movement.

YVR is leveraging its digital twin, which provides real-time information on airport operations, including modelling on optimizing operational efficiency. The tool can also be used to monitor and map more efficient aircraft movements to reduce emissions, supporting YVR’s and the industry’s climate goals.

Vrooman also highlighted YVR’s climate leadership through its recent Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation and its new Cascadia Corridor partnership. The partnership will see YVR collaborate with the Port of Seattle and Port of Portland on efforts that will accelerate the decarbonization of the industry. This includes advancing the development and use of sustainable aviation fuel and electrification of airport operations.

YVR’s long-term partnership with Musqueam Indian Band remains a key anchor and guiding principle for all future airport operations and business growth opportunities. YVR continues to prioritize Indigenous partnership and allyship across its operations, as outlined in the 30-year Friendship and Sustainability Agreement.

The TIAs celebrate change makers and true leadership in the province’s tech sector. YVR’s Digital Twin platform was acknowledged for its ability to improve operational performance, competitiveness, productivity and employee engagement.

A recent and timely use case, YVR is using its Digital Twin to support airport operations and enhance the passenger experience. By putting the Digital Twin into the hands of YVR’s frontline workers, YVR’s Guest Experience team has been using the Digital Twin’s situational awareness tool to plan and map out effective staffing levels and deployment as the operation dynamically changes throughout the day.

YVR is advancing use cases for the Digital Twin, including measuring GHGs from aircraft taking off, landing and taxiing, incorporating the Digital Twin into future infrastructure planning, and building a passenger experience platform wherein travellers can customize their journey through YVR before arriving at the terminal. “Innovation continues to be one of our greatest tools to deliver an exceptional experience for our passengers at YVR. We are thrilled to launch YVR EXPRESS, a free digital platform, to help passengers move through security screening more efficiently,” said Robyn McVicker, Vice President, Passenger Journey at Vancouver Airport Authority. “We continue to work with our airport partners to make improvements at YVR and are pleased with the level of collaboration to offer the option of advanced booking for security screening to our passengers.”

YVR partnered with Copenhagen Optimization and CLEAR to customize the program and worked with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to support implementation. CATSA is the federal crown corporation responsible for all passenger security screening and YVR is committed to supporting the flow of passengers through this critical process.

Through YVR EXPRESS, travellers add their flight information and the number of people in their party. The system automatically displays open booking times to choose from. Once a slot is selected, a QR code is sent via email for the travellers to present to airport staff at the security checkpoint within 15 minutes of their scheduled time.

YVR EXPRESS is free to use and currently available for travel to the U.S. with flights scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the airport’s E gates. Travellers can schedule their appointment to enter security screening up to 72 hours ahead of their flight’s scheduled departure time or when they arrive at the airport, until 90 minutes before flight’s scheduled departure time.

“Working with our partners, we aim to expand YVR EXPRESSS to our domestic and international security checkpoints at the airport over the coming months so that all travellers at YVR have more control over their travel journey,” said McVicker.

Over the past several months YVR navigated various operational challenges amid increased travel demand and post-pandemic labour shortages. From January compared to August, daily passenger volumes increased approximately 170 per cent at the airport.

While YVR has experienced some delays, congestion, and frustrated travellers, through the implementation of new technologies and continued collaboration with aviation and government partners, YVR has not experienced the level of operational disruption that has systemically impacted major airports worldwide through the summer.

For additional efficiencies when travelling to the U.S. from YVR, US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) has introduced Mobile Passport Control, an app that will speed up the journey to the U.S. from YVR.

Mobile Passport Control (MPC) is a new app from US CBP that allows travellers to submit information digitally prior to moving through the border process, helping speed up the departures experience from YVR for those travelling to the U.S. The MPC app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App store and Google Play.

Travellers returning to Canada from the U.S. or another international destination are reminded that while ArriveCAN is no longer mandatory, passengers can use the app to digitally submit their customs declaration in advance, helping save time through the border clearance process.

“At YVR, safety is our number one priority. We view exercises and training as an essential part of this commitment to safety by remaining prepared in the unlikely event of an incident,” said Robyn McVicker, Vice President, Passenger Journey at Vancouver Airport Authority. “I was pleased to see the level of coordination between all our partners and volunteers to effectively manage the simulated emergency. Hosting multi-agency training allows us to test our Emergency Management Plan in realistic conditions and helps refine our plans to incorporate the knowledge gained. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in planning and participating in this full-scale exercise.”

Today’s training exercise simulated a mock aircraft crash. The scenario provided the opportunity for YVR and its multi-agency partners to respond to a fictional scenario in which an aircraft lost control during an emergency landing and crashed on the YVR runway. The simulated aircraft wreckage was attended to by emergency responders with a team of volunteers who played injured victims providing a realistic experience for players.

Emergency exercises are a key part of YVR’s Emergency Management Plan and the airport facilities a full-scale training exercise once every two years, per Transport Canada regulation. YVR’s Emergency Management Plan deals with all emergency situations including aircraft incidents, natural disasters, medical emergencies, security threats and biological hazards. It is refined on a regular basis to incorporate knowledge learned through exercises and the latest developments in airport safety and emergency management.

Due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, today’s exercise was the airport’s first since 2019 and the largest non-military full-scale exercise to be conducted in British Columbia.

YVR employs a number of additional exercises on a regular basis to test protocols, procedures, communications and planning for emergency and/or security related incidents, and continued these through the pandemic under its standard course of operations. This includes live scenario training, table-top exercises, and emergency simulation drills.

“After more than two years operating under a very complex series of changing regulations, today’s announcement is very welcome news for the travelling public, our community, and workers across the aviation sector,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority. “The removal of COVID-19 travel measures will improve passengers’ overall travel experience, assist our frontline employees, and allow more people to reconnect with loved ones and tourism experiences across the province and country.”

In addition to ending testing and quarantine measures, the government will remove mandatory mask mandates at airports and during flights, and requirements for submitting vaccination data. Use of ArriveCAN will also no longer be mandatory, but remains recommended for submission of customs and immigration information.

Leveraging its long history of innovation, during the pandemic YVR accelerated digital applications to improve the traveller experience, including implementing a new digital twin platform to monitor operations and deploy resources and support in real time. The organization’s focus on climate change and its drive to become carbon zero by 2030 also continued unabated, with YVR in September becoming the first airport in Canada to successfully achieve Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation. With staffing shortages affecting all sectors but in particular aviation, YVR re-doubled efforts to attract workers to the aviation sector, becoming a Living Wage Employer earlier this year.

“As pandemic policies are removed, demand for aviation will continue to strengthen. As will the role of YVR within B.C.’s critical supply chain infrastructure. It is imperative going forward that government and industry work collaboratively to drive further policy development and innovation to meet the needs of travellers, and that we support sustainable growth and aviation sector employees,” concluded Vrooman.

The Level 4+ accreditation recognizes YVR’s role in setting a course for its own carbon reduction while actively working with aviation partners to drive broader emissions reductions.

In addition, the airport recently aligned with the two largest commercial airports in the Cascadia Corridor: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Portland International Airport (PDX), to leverage resources that will lead to tangible results in four categories, including the development and use of sustainable aviation fuels.

YVR’s leadership in carbon reduction was given further recognition by Airports Council International through an Honourable Mention at the 2022 Environmental Achievement Awards for the airport’s Roadmap to Net Zero Carbon.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation provides a common framework and tool for active carbon management at airports with measurable results. YVR has been recognized by Airports Council International for its efforts in sustainability with progressive levels of accreditation since 2016.

Through its partnership, YVR and TTG will invite organizations to consider sponsoring areas or assets of the airport to enhance the overall passenger experience at YVR while reaching thousands of travellers, visitors, and employees each day. In August, YVR welcomed a total of 2,101,435 passengers, making it the busiest month since the start of the global pandemic and bringing YVR’s year-to-date total at month’s end to approximately 11 million passengers. During this same period in 2019, the airport welcomed 2,511,190 passengers for the month and a total of approximately 17 million passengers by the end of August.

Of the passengers who travelled through YVR in August, 1,063,434 were departing and 1,038,001 were arriving. A total of approximately 1,011,332 bags were processed with these passengers, 707,509 of which were outbound bags. Service delivery for outbound baggage at YVR is tracking at a 99 per cent success rate, meaning nearly all baggage is processed on time and departs alongside the passenger from the airport.

In addition, data provided by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) indicates that approximately 81.4 per cent of passengers travelling from YVR in August were screened within 15 minutes.

With the peak summer travel months now behind and looking ahead to the week of
September 6 – 11, YVR is expecting an average of approximately 61,000 passengers per day for a total of 369,752 for the week, connecting these travellers to 93 destinations across Canada and the world.

Within this week, Tuesday and Sunday are expected to be the busiest travel days with 62,647 and 63,720 passengers expected, respectively. During this same period in 2019, YVR welcomed an average of 71,299 passengers daily.

The airport is expecting Monday, August 29 and Sunday, September 04 to be the busiest travel days with 66,858 and 67,221 passengers, respectively. To put this in perspective, YVR welcomed an average of 32,458 passengers daily this time last year (2021) and 73,404 pre-pandemic (2019).

Over the past few months airlines have made important decisions to continue to invest in service restoration and expansion at YVR, including Air Canada launching Austin and announcing new service to Bangkok and Miami commencing this winter.

Going forward the operational impact of the pandemic on aviation is akin to the virus itself – it is still very unpredictable. YVR will continue to work closely with all industry stakeholders as passenger numbers continue to increase, and we remind travellers to please remain current on government travel policy requirements.

Travellers, visitors and workers will notice the installation of a bold, vibrant mural in the Canada Line walkway that spans from the YVR Airport platform to the terminal. The artwork was created and funded in partnership with Vancouver Pride Society and local artist, Lindsey McEwan.

The installation comes as Vancouver Pride Society prepares to hold its first in-person Pride festival in two years. The theme for this year’s Pride festival is #TogetherAgain, and so, it is only natural that YVR, a place of connection for people and communities, puts its support on display.

YVR’s partnership with Vancouver Pride Society came to fruition through the airport’s social impact program, YVR Cares, which directly aligns with Vancouver Pride Society’s purpose of empowering people, supporting communities, and creating a sustainable future.

“YVR is a welcome place for all,” said Richard Beed, VP, People & Brand at Vancouver Airport Authority. "We are proud to show our support for Vancouver Pride Society through this important partnership, which is a natural extension of our commitment to building a strong culture of diversity, inclusion and belonging for all travellers and those working for the Airport Authority and across the YVR community of employers.”

"Lindsey McEwan's mural at YVR celebrates the beauty and diversity of our queer community," says Vancouver Pride Society Executive Director (Interim) Lee Keple. "We are grateful to have such a strong reflection of #TogetherAgain represented at the airport so that 2SLGBTQAI+ visitors and allies from around the world feel welcome in our amazing city."

In addition to providing the space and installation costs of the mural, YVR has given Vancouver Pride Society a financial contribution, which will be used to support the festival kicking off July 20. The contribution also provides funding for the local artist behind the YVR mural, Lindsey McEwan.

“My aim was to include as many of the (over 32+) pride flags as possible. Each representing queer communities around the world, I placed them in a way that demonstrated how intertwined we are while keeping the integrity of each flag used,” said Lindsey McEwan. “The massive space and glass substrate allowed me to realize an archetype of stained-glass windows that honour and respect all queer communities together with pride. My name is Lindsey, I am a transgender, panromantic woman and I am thankful I was given the opportunity to do this.”

YVR thanks Vancouver Pride Society for producing inclusive, celebratory events, and advocating for 2SLGBTQAI+ communities through an intersectional lens. YVR is honoured to support Vancouver Pride Society’s efforts.

Musqueam are the original stewards of Sea Island, where YVR is located. It is therefore understood that Indigenous artworks at the airport and on Sea Island are created by Musqueam and reflect their culture and tradition, or that Musqueam is consulted in the placement and use of Indigenous artworks.

Following many months of planning and coordination, the newly raised welcome figure in Chester Johnson Park, carved by ʔəy̓xʷatələq (Musqueam artist Brent Sparrow), is visible upon exit from YVR’s International Terminal. This placement is significant to Musqueam culture and YVR’s unique sense of place as it provides a traditional Musqueam welcome to the millions of travellers and visitors to the airport and Musqueam territory each year.

Members of Gitxsan Nation, whose ancestral territory is the Northwest Interior of British Columbia, joined the ceremonial work to witness the relocation of the poles that once stood in the park. The poles, created in 1970 by the late Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs, Chief Delgamuukw (Earl Muldon) and Chief Simogyet Geel (Walter Harris), were carved with a group of students from the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art, situated in the historic village of K’san. The K’san poles, as they have come to be known, have been on loan to YVR from the Museum of Vancouver since 1995.

“hay ce:p q̓ə (thank you) to everyone at YVR for taking responsibility and correcting the mistake of raising Gitxsan poles on Musqueam territory,” said Musqueam Chief Wayne Sparrow. “This ceremony is another step on our shared path towards reconciliation, and is an example of how other organizations and businesses can remedy their mistakes of showcasing Indigenous artwork that does not represent the nations whose land they are on.”

“The work of raising a Musqueam welcome figure in this central location at YVR and relocating the poles of Gitxsan Nation with permission is a significant step in our partnership with Musqueam and journey toward reconciliation,” said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority. “We are privileged to walk beside Musqueam as we learn more about how we can continue to work together with intention towards the legacy we want to leave and pursue opportunities that will strengthen our partnership and benefit the community that we mutually serve.”

This year marks the fifth year of the signing of the Musqueam-YVR Sustainability and Friendship Agreement. Since the signing of this historic agreement, YVR has incorporated Musqueam cultural protocols throughout its business and operations, and continues to increase Musqueam representation across the airport community. In addition to the July 19 cultural ceremony, YVR has integrated some of the 94 Calls to Action put forward by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, with more work to follow.

YVR and Musqueam are located in the same community on land that is traditional Musqueam territory. Musqueam now play an integral role in many areas of YVR’s business and operations, from noise management and environmental advisory to development planning and cultural engagement.

As British Columbians and visitors prepare for travel over the Canada Day long weekend and beyond, Vancouver International Airport (YVR), its airline partners and government agencies are focused on delivering a safe and seamless experience for passengers.

This weekend, YVR is on track to see an average of over 70,000 passengers per day. The airport is expecting Friday, July 1 and Sunday, July 3 to be the peak days for travel. Across any given day, early-to-mid morning will be the heaviest for passenger flow with volume easing late morning and into the afternoon before peaking again in the evening.

With more than 2 million passengers forecast throughout July and August, YVR continues to advise travellers to arrive approximately two hours ahead of domestic flights, and three hours prior for international flights. Passengers should check the latest flight information with their airline before coming to the airport.

“We are thrilled to see the increased demand for air travel and to welcome more passengers through YVR. As we look forward to our busiest weekend since the start of the pandemic, we continue to work closely with our airline and government partners to address the operational and processing challenges that passengers are facing as we collectively rebuild the travel and tourism sector. Through its website, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) provides travellers with useful information for pre-board screening, including tips for packing of carry-on bags and advice for families, seniors, and those with special needs. CATSA also provides information on pre-board screening wait times.

Although the Government of Canada has extended its pause on mandatory random testing for fully vaccinated passengers arriving from an international destination, all travellers entering Canada are required to complete ArriveCAN, details for which can be found on the Government of Canada website. Additionally, passengers can include their customs declaration information through the updated ArriveCAN app, thereby speeding up their processing time through the border at YVR.

Travellers through YVR can look forward to new culinary offerings, including Dirty Apron and Pacific Farms Market as well as a new option to pre-order meals from a number of the airport’s food and beverage and retail stores. YVR has also welcomed more than 80 new team members through its Guest Experience program who, alongside Green Coat volunteers, are stationed at Information Counters and throughout the terminal and are ready to answer any questions you may have.

Passengers departing from YVR

• Arrive early. YVR encourages everyone flying out to arrive at the airport early—approximately two hours ahead of domestic flights and three hours for U.S. and international.
• Have a parking plan. If you’re driving to the airport, here are four ways to park at YVR.
• Know before you go. Be sure to understand the entry requirements of your destination. Have your travel documents, including your passport and proof of vaccination and test results if required, ready before you check in for your flight. Learn more about testing options at YVR.
• Follow latest health measures. Masks continue to be required in the terminal and onboard your flight.
• Take note of curbside and in-terminal signs for departure information. Follow curbside and in-terminal signs to help you navigate easily to your airline check-in counter and gate. Learn more about checking in for your flight here.
• Be prepared for passenger screening. Please be patient as CATSA staff are doing their best under very busy and challenging circumstances and be prepared to help agents move you through screening as efficiently as possible. Ensure liquids, gels and aerosols are in containers that are under 100 milliliters and are packaged into one transparent, closed, and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than one litre. Passengers arriving in Canada

Sun Country’s first scheduled service flight to Canada landed at YVR today, commencing its twice-weekly summer seasonal service between YVR and MSP.

“Connecting people, places and community is at the heart of what we do at YVR. As the world re-opens to travel, we are excited to welcome another new airline partner, Sun Country, to provide an additional option between Vancouver and Minneapolis for travellers this summer,” said Russell Atkinson, Director, Air Service Development at Vancouver Airport Authority.

Celebrating its 40^th anniversary this year, Sun Country, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a hybrid low-cost air carrier with a focus on leisure travel serving customers throughout the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and now Canada.

“Vancouver is Sun Country’s first scheduled service to a Canadian destination,” said Grant Whitney, Chief Revenue Officer at Sun Country Airlines. “We are excited to offer Minnesotans the opportunity to visit British Columbia and expand our service to the Pacific Northwest.”

A Boeing 737-800 with seat capacity for 186 passengers will cover the distance of 1,400 miles in approximately four hours and five minutes from YVR to MSP every Wednesday and Saturday at the following times:

June 15, 2022, to September 3, 2022 (summer seasonal service)

• MSP to YVR – Depart 8:45 - Arrival 10:50 (Pacific Time)
• YVR to MSP – Depart 11:50 - Arrival 17:20 (Pacific Time)

Going forward, there is still work to be done to address challenges facing airports, airlines, and the travelling public with respect to passenger screening and international arrivals processing. We will continue to engage the federal government on these issues in the weeks ahead.

YVR continues to work with government and federal agencies to ensure travellers are able to move through the airport as efficiently as possible. The airport has invested in a new Guest Experience team who, along with YVR’s Green Coat volunteers, are stationed at Information Counters and throughout the terminal to assist and answer questions and help prepare travellers for Government of Canada screening processes.

Other federal travel policies such as the mandatory wearing of masks in airports and on aircraft and proof of vaccination requirements for air travel remain in effect.
