At YVR, we’re always looking for ways to make the journey through the airport smoother, faster, and more intuitive. That’s why we’re partnering with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) to modernize our screening checkpoints with new CATSA Plus Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray equipment.  

This equipment upgrade, now complete at two of our Domestic security checkpoints, allows travellers to move through screening without removing liquids, aerosols, gels, or large electronics from their carry-on bags.  

The new CT technology enhances both safety and efficiency, helping more passengers move seamlessly through screening while continuing to enjoy YVR’s signature mix of local art and West Coast storytelling. 

As the first airport in Canada to adopt the new CATSA Plus equipment in September 2024, YVR is helping set a new standard for airport security. 

Continuing this momentum, YVR will extend this technology to every checkpoint across the terminal in 2026, including International and U.S. departure checkpoints. 

This upgrade reflects YVR’s ongoing commitment to innovation and growth, ensuring that every journey through our airport is not only secure but also welcoming, effortless, and uniquely reflective of our community. 

As of September 4, Checkpoint ABC North has reopened with cutting-edge CATSA Plus Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray equipment, making YVR the first airport in Canada to use this advanced security screening technology.   

YVR invested $30 million to expand and modernize the space with travellers in mind and reflect our commitment to blending functionality with our unique sense of place. With the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority’s (CATSA) new system, travellers can move through security screening without the need to remove liquids, aerosols, gels, or large electronics from their carry-on bags, all while maintaining the highest safety standards and enjoying local art and storytelling. 

Serving passengers travelling through gates A, B, and C, the newly renovated checkpoint reduces congestion during peak hours and gives passengers more flexibility in how they navigate the airport. These enhancements, aimed at reducing wait times and stress, underscore YVR's commitment to creating a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience for everyone. 

YVR worked closely with CATSA to bring this state-of-the-art technology to life, ensuring that passengers experience is as seamless as possible.  

This initiative is a key part of YVR’s ongoing dedication to innovation and leadership in the aviation sector. As the first airport in Canada to adopt this technology, YVR is part of a new standard for airport security, offering travellers both enhanced safety and a more streamlined journey.
