Claire Newell: Experience the A-T-L

Atlanta text on a wall

Atlanta, the A-T-L or HOT-lanta as many locals affectionately call it, is a city you will want to add to your travel wish list. Incredible restaurants, shopping, attractions and nightlife – your itinerary can be as jammed packed as you wish on a trip to Atlanta.

Restaurants

Amazing brunch spots, killer patios and every type of cuisine you could possibly imagine are in Atlanta. Named one of Travel & Leisure's "America's Best Cities for Barbecue", you’ll need to hit up one of the many BBQ hotspots. Authentic Southern & Soul food is the historic beginning of many of today's popular menus in the city. It’s more than fried chicken, sweet tea, grits and fried green tomatoes. Atlanta's restaurants serve new Southern cuisine fit for the 21st century as well as traditional Southern food. Some famous and historic spots you should check out include: Bone's, Chops Lobster Bar, Mary Mac's Tea Toom, Paschal's, Pittypat's Porch and Silver Skillet.

Shopping

From boutiques to high-end designers and outlet malls, Atlanta has it. Venture into Buckhead for luxurious Atlanta shopping with upscale malls like Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza that feature top brands. You can discover one-of-a-kind boutiques in neighborhood shopping districts in Midtown and Virginia Highland. Plus there are some funky vintage shopping in Little Five Points, one of Atlanta’s hippest neighbourhoods.

Attractions

Some of the city's most popular tourist attractions are located in Downtown Atlanta's walkable attractions loop, including the CNN Studio, World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, Center for Civil and Human Rights, The Children's Museum of Atlanta and SkyView Atlanta. International art exhibits, musicians and award-winning theater is in Atlanta's arts district. Be sure to check out the emerging street art and festival scene where murals and installations pop up frequently.

Nightlife

When the sun sets, Atlanta pubs, bars, lounges and clubs heat up! Many visitors' journeys begin in Downtown Atlanta, where there's always something going on. You can also choose between the laid-back vibes of Atlanta's Eastside or Westside, the chic style in Buckhead or the trendy scene in Midtown.

Getting There

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport it’s actually one of the busiest airports in the US, primarily because it’s one of Delta Air Lines major hubs. Getting to Atlanta from Vancouver is easy with daily flights from Delta. Stay connected to friends and family with Wi-Fi available for purchase and charging stations on most flights. For added relaxation, upgrade to Delta Comfort with early boarding, dedicated overhead bin space, up to 3” more legroom and 50% more recline than the standard main cabin.
